Value Edit Mode and Drawing Mode

This is a very important setting. You can know which mode you are in because it is indicated in the window caption.

When you are in Value Edit Mode you can edit the values of angles and lengths. This is the default setting WHEN YOU ARE ENTERING AN ORDER.

When you are in Drawing Mode you define or change the shape of the piece. This is the default setting WHEN YOU ARE CREATING OR CHANGING A MODEL.

If you change the default setting to Drawing Mode WHEN YOU ARE ENTERING AN ORDER you can define shapes which do not correspond to any of the models. That may be interesting if you need to make a piece which is very rare and you prefer not to define a model for it. Enter the code of a model which is most similar, toggle to Drawing Mode and Add/Delete/Change pieces to adapt the model to your needs. These changes won't apply to the model, only to this row. If in another row in the same order you use the same model code, you'll see the changes are inherited, but again you can make changes which are specific to that row. Once you go to another order, the changes you have made won't be inherited when you use this model code.

If you change the default setting to Value Edit Mode WHEN YOU ARE DEFINING A MODEL then you can inform the default values for angles and lengths. This can be interesting, for instance, if you know that a certain angle is 45º in most cases. This is what we are going to test now:

Choose General->Models->Add / Change / Delete.

Type one of the models you have created so far and press OK.

Choose Drawing->Toggle: VALUE EDIT MODE / DRAWING MODE.

You see the grid has disappeared and you can go from one value to the other with the mouse or with the up key and down key. If you inform the values, they will be the default values when you use this model in an order.

To return to the drawing mode choose again Drawing->Toggle: VALUE EDIT MODE / DRAWING MODE.

You see the grid has appeared again and in the window caption you are informed which of the two settings you are in. By default when you are in drawing mode a grid helps you, but if you don't like the grid, you can remove it by choosing Drawing->Toggle: Grid.

Choose File->Exit.
